Terms of Use

Last updated:

These Terms of Use describe the permitted use of the Karing Hearts Cardiology public website, including its educational articles, downloadable resources, and general inquiry forms. Please read them before using the website. Separate terms may apply to patient portals, payment services, and other linked services.

Health information is educational

Articles, descriptions of services, and other general website materials provide educational information. They do not provide an individual diagnosis or treatment plan and are not a substitute for advice from a qualified healthcare professional familiar with your circumstances.

Do not delay seeking care, change medication, or disregard your clinician’s instructions because of something you read on this website. General descriptions of tests or procedures may not apply to your preparation or care; follow the instructions provided by your care team.

Browsing the public website, downloading a form, or sending a general inquiry does not by itself establish a clinician-patient relationship. These terms do not change an existing care relationship or replace agreements or instructions provided as part of your treatment.

Appointments, forms, and communications

Submitting an appointment request does not confirm an appointment. Please obtain confirmation from our office. Do not rely on an online request for time-sensitive care, cancellations, prescription needs, or urgent questions; call 423-926-4468 for assistance.

Provide accurate contact information and submit information only for yourself or someone you are authorized to assist. Please do not include medical records, Social Security numbers, payment-card details, or passwords in general website forms. Contact our office for an appropriate way to share sensitive information.

You may view, download, and print patient forms for use in obtaining care. Downloading or completing a PDF does not send it to the practice. Ask our office how to return completed paperwork.

Descriptions of services do not guarantee that a particular treatment is appropriate or available for you, that a specific provider is available, or that insurance will cover a service. Confirm scheduling, referrals, insurance participation, and financial questions with the practice and your insurer as appropriate.

Acceptable use and website content

Use the website lawfully and respect the privacy and rights of others. Do not:

  • Impersonate another person or submit false, threatening, unlawful, or unsolicited promotional material.
  • Attempt to access accounts, records, or systems without authorization.
  • Introduce malicious software, bypass security controls, or interfere with the website or its services.
  • Use automated requests in a way that disrupts the website or collects other people’s personal information without authorization.

Website text, photographs, graphics, logos, and other materials may be protected by copyright, trademark, and other rights held by the practice or their respective owners. You may use practice-provided patient resources for your personal, noncommercial care and reference, keeping any attribution or rights notices intact. Other reuse may require permission from the rights holder, except where permitted by law. These terms do not grant permission to use the practice’s branding to suggest an endorsement.

Patient portal, payments, referrals, and external links

The website links to services including the Medfusion patient portal, Phreesia payment service, and Preferral/AristaMD referral service. Review the terms and privacy notices presented by each service. Keep account credentials private and contact the practice or the service’s support team if you suspect unauthorized access.

Directions, social media, and other resource links may take you to separately operated websites. Their content, availability, and features can change. A link does not guarantee the accuracy of that website or endorse every statement, product, or service it contains.

Payment processing and any payment arrangements are governed by the applicable payment-service and practice billing terms. These website terms do not create a refund policy or modify your financial arrangements with the practice.

Privacy and patient rights

Our Website Privacy Policy describes information collected through the public website, including forms and website tools.

Our Notice of Privacy Practices (PDF) — opens in a new tab addresses protected health information and medical privacy rights. Using the website does not provide a HIPAA authorization or waive your privacy rights. These terms do not replace informed consent, treatment agreements, or rights and protections that cannot lawfully be waived.

Website availability and limitations

Website content and features may be updated, interrupted, or unavailable. Although we aim to provide useful information, website materials may contain errors or become outdated. Confirm details that affect your visit or care directly with the practice.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the public website and its general informational materials are provided “as is” and “as available,” without a warranty that they will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for a particular purpose. This statement concerns the public website; it does not disclaim professional duties in providing healthcare or limit rights that applicable law protects.

If a link, form, or downloadable resource does not work, please call our office for another way to obtain information or assistance.

Changes and questions

Revised terms will be posted here with an updated date. Please review this page when using the website. Changes to these website terms do not, by themselves, amend a separate treatment or billing agreement.

For questions about these terms, website accessibility, or permission to reuse practice materials, contact:

Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE)

A transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) is an invasive heart procedure where an ultrasound probe is inserted into your esophagus (food pipe). A transesophageal echocardiogram allows your cardiologist to acquire detailed pictures pertaining to the structure, function and any valvular heart disease that many be present. This procedure demonstrates your cardiac function in much greater detail than a standard transthoracic echocardiogram.

Prior to your procedure, you should not have any food or drink for 8-12 hours. In most cases, you will be able to take your home medications as scheduled. Your cardiologist / healthcare provider will advise you if there are any requirements to alter your medication schedule. Prior to your transesophageal echocardiogram, the technologist will insert an IV in your arm as a safety precaution to begin the test. This will allow sedation to be given to make you more comfortable during your procedure. During your procedure, you will be required to lie flat for approximately 30 minutes while the test is being completed. After your transesophageal echocardiogram, you will need to refrain from driving for approximately 12 hours and will need someone to accompany you home after the procedure. You can return to your normal activities the morning after your procedure.
